About Us Image

From Passion to Distillation, A New Beginning.

The Tamworth Distillery was born in January 2025 from a love for spirits and the unique climate of Tamworth and the New England. With a commitment to local ingredients, we handcraft spirits that celebrate our region's rich heritage. Each bottle tells a story of the seasons and the land. Locally owned and operated, our small craft distillery is a labour of love, not a pursuit of gain. After a working lifetime in process control, food production, maintenance, and asset management, our head distiller Mark now spends his days doing something he loves, and loves sharing it.

Come and Find us for a Tasting

Join us each month for an immersive tasting experience at the Kingswood Market where you can explore the flavours and stories behind our spirits. The market is held on the second Saturday each month in Spains Lane, Tamworth, NSW from 4pm to 8pm in Summer, and 10am till 2pm in Winter. We also attend other markets in and around Tamworth. The Peel St Market on the 3rd Sunday of each month, plus The Kable Ave Market on the 2nd, 4th & 5th Saturday of each Month. Currabubula market is run twice a year and we're able to offer taskings at this market.

A Short Story

Our process starts with ingredients we source as close to the distillery as possible. We then "mash in" and produce our own alcohol, making us one of only 5% of distilleries in Australia that do this. Producing our own alcohol means we're in control of quality from the very first step. We produce a range of bases that all have their own specific qualities, allowing us to fine-tune each recipe. It's what we discard that truly makes the difference. There is no harsh burn, and the day after need not be feared any longer. Keeping only one-third of the alcohol we produce is the key: just the very centre of the 'hearts' cut, the best of the best. From there, we go on to macerate fresh botanicals and, using a triple distillation process, produce a Gin we're proud of. For our Liqueurs, we mix fresh local produce with herbs and spices and some specialty ingredients from other trusted small business partners to produce a range that is second to none. Truly local.

Whiskey or Whisky

American and Irish spirits are spelled "whiskey" (with an "e"), while Scotch, Canadian, and Japanese spirits are spelled "whisky" (without the "e"). It's no secret Mark is dyslexic and Australian, so with a choice of extra letters or not, the answer to how we should spell it was easy. While we're on the topic of Mark's spelling, don't forget our Web Bug Bounty. If you find an error in our webpage or webstore and let us know, you'll receive a discount on your next purchase. American/British variants excluded ;-)
